Celerity Helps National Geographic Celebrate 125th Anniversary with Launch of #GreatNature Photo Campaign
McLEAN, VA—Celerity’s Web and Mobile team recently helped National Geographic launch the Great Nature Project website, a nature-focused photo-aggregation site, powered by social media, in honor of the organization’s 125th anniversary. The site, which celebrates the society’s global biodiversity initiative, allows nature-lovers to post photos of plants and animals straight from social media. With over 107,000 photos uploaded in just a month, the site is currently closing in on a Guinness World Record for the largest online photo album of animals.
Celerity led the user experience design, analytics strategy, web development, and project management for the website, delivering a finished product in the tight timeline of just four months. The site features near real-time photo aggregation from a variety of photo-sharing sources (including Instagram, Flickr, Twitter, and other National Geographic’s enterprise websites), and is responsive on all handheld devices. Users also have the option to share and "like" photos, and search photos by location using an interactive map feature.
The site also showcases photo collections created by partners and well-known celebrities such as Selena Gomez, Michelle Obama, Jewel, and Joe Jonas. The site is part of an international celebration for National Geographic's 125th Anniversary.
