Celerity Implements Sitecore CMS for Markel Website Redesign

McLEAN, VA — Celerity, the leader in business acceleration, recently conducted one of the first implementations of the Sitecore CMS MVC framework as part of a major CMS web redesign of Markel Corp’s website. Sitecore's new technology leverages the design principle of separation of concerns (SoC) for a clean, structured, testable, and more maintainable website, and has helped transform Markel’s dated site into a contemporary platform that more accurately represents the company’s diverse offerings.

Markel’s December 2012 purchase of Alterra Capital Holdings marked one of many strategic moves to diversify and strengthen its book of specialty insurance business. To complement the company’s growing size and service offerings, Markel sought a web design and development partner that could help create a scalable, maintainable content management platform. The company also desired an enhanced user experience for the site, complete with streamlined navigation and mobile accessibility.
Celerity’s CMS website design experts collaborated closely with Markel’s Marketing, IT, and web groups to help select the best CMS solutions for the company’s business needs, and then designed and developed the new site, from the ground up, in less than seven months.

Today, the company’s web presence matches its impressive worldwide operations. Features like responsive design, improved information architecture, and seamless integration with third-party content were included to enhance user experience. The new CMS technology has also enabled faster and easier content contribution, decreasing the time required to make content changes from approximately 5 hours to 5 minutes.
