Lighting the Night
McLEAN, VA – A Celerity team of 40 walkers recently participated in the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) annual Light The Night Walk in Washington DC. Celerity employees joined with survivors and their family and friends, to raise awareness and money for blood cancer research, patient services and advocacy.
With an original fund-raising goal of $2,000, Celerity’s McLean team immediately surpassed its goal and raised a total of $6,420.
“We are extremely proud of our employees’ efforts and contributions to LLS as we all strive to make a difference in the lives of the Americans battling blood cancer,” said Michael Berkman, Celerity CEO.
The fundraising efforts culminated in an inspirational night including a remembrance ceremony, various activities and a 2.5-mile walk. Hundreds of participants carried different colored balloons to pay tribute and bring hope to all of the people battling cancer. White balloons were carried by survivors, red balloons by supporters and the gold balloons were held by those walking in memory of a loved one they lost.
The National Capital Area Light The Night Walk generated more than $2.2 million to support LLS’s mission, which is to find a cure for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families. Overall, 2012 Light The Night Walks nationally raised more than $51 million for lifesaving cancer research. An awards ceremony will be held on January 31st in Washington DC to celebrate all of the Light The Night fundraising efforts.
