Local Volunteer Effort Keeps Food Pantry in Business

August 16th, 2011

Dallas, Texas  -  August 15th, 2011  -  In early August, Minnie’s Food Pantry in Plano, Texas was in jeopardy of closing its doors for good. The extreme heat across the area and high electricity bills caused a shortage of supplies and lack of donations from regular contributors. Thanks to several local news and media channels who called for support, the pantry received truckloads and supplies on August 4, replenishing the food pantry generous provisions.

Several employees from a local technology consulting firm, Celerity, volunteered at an event hosted by Minne’s Food Pantry. During the three-hour volunteer effort, six Celerity employees helped to prepare bags of food that fed the 35 families (over 100 individuals) that came in. They also sorted, stored and packed hundreds of food items for future volunteer endeavors. Additionally, Celerity made a $250 monetary donation which will go towards purchasing food items to create hundreds of meals for those in need.

“Volunteering at Minnie’s Food Pantry in such a great time of need was such a wonderful experience. It was extremely rewarding to see the immediate impact the Celerity team had on the Plano community,” said Sanam Boroumand, Celerity’s Director of Process and Performance Management .
