Celerity Establishes Risk Management Infrastructure for Leading National Bank.

As the result of a major Consumer Financial Protection Bureau enforcement action, a leading national bank in the Fortune 100 was forced to pay $250 million in fines and penalties for its credit card cross-sell program. To better understand, manage, and contain its operational challenges, the bank needed a partner to quickly build a robust operational risk management infrastructure to prevent future regulatory actions and fees.

The leading national bank engaged Celerity’s Operational Excellence team to be its process management and IT risk partner to develop a risk management infrastructure that would meet the control and monitoring requirements for the bank’s existing credit card cross-sell program.

Celerity developed, designed, and implemented an operational risk management framework to proactively identify and mitigate future risk events and provide upstream control of identified risks. Celerity delivered increased process transparency via operational dashboards and key performance indicators.

Celerity helped the bank to successfully institute a holistic risk management program for three existing credit card product portfolios. The program received the highest possible grade from a comprehensive internal audit of the cross-sell program. It also provided a control and monitoring vehicle that could be used for other lines of business within the bank. By working with Celerity’s Operational Excellence team, the bank was able to drive continuous improvements to its infrastructure and protect itself from future enforcement actions.

  • The project brought risk management to the forefront of bank operations.
  • New risk controls received the highest possible audit grade.
