Intranet CMS Fuels Collaboration and Social Engagement

National Geographic wanted to build a more interactive intranet to improve employee experience and foster an inclusive organizational culture. In addition to needing an updated content management system (CMS), the organization wanted to integrate the new site with other internal applications and add social media components. Management was looking to complete this full intranet redesign in less than one year—an aggressive timeline that would stretch and challenge internal resources.

Celerity's Digital Experience team took an Agile, user-centered approach to accelerate each phase of the major CMS intranet redesign, from discovery, UX strategy, and CMS selection to development, testing, training and roll-out. Key features of the employee self-service intranet include a social enterprise tool that enables real-time interactions, distributed capabilities for easy content updates, and detailed employee profiles.

The Acceleration?   In addition to creating a more engaged employee culture, the site was recognized by the Nielsen Norman Group as one of the 10 Best Intranets of 2014, and was awarded "Intranet Site of the Year" by Ektron™.
